The 45 meter long, 777 gt tugboat Kelly Ovayuak ran aground on the Great Slave Lake near Lutselk’e, Northwest Territories, Canada. The tug and its barges were heading back from Lutselk’e after delivering supplies to the remote community when it ran hard aground.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Canadian Coast Guard and other authorities have been notified and a response team will be dispatched to the scene. Reports state the response team will salvage the tug and barges and will return the vessels to Hay River.

The 143 meter long cargo vessel Jan Van Gent ran aground on the St. Lawrence River on Lake Saint-Pierre near Yamachiche, Quebec, Canada. The Jan Van Gent was headed to Hamilton, Ontario in ballast when it suffered engine and steering failure. The cargo vessel drifted out of the fairway and ran aground.  Tugs were dispatched to the scene and refloated the Jan Van Gent later the same day. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Jan Van Gent proceeded to Montreal for surveys.

The 101 foot long, 192 gt tug Ocean Eagle and its barge under tow ran aground in the Seymour Narrows near Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada. The pair had touched bottom while en route to Alaska with the barge loaded with general cargo.  Reports state both vessels were later refloated.  They proceeded to Menzies Bay where they will be inspected for damage. No reports of injuries to the five people on board and no pollution was released.
