Canadian Miner

The 223 meter long, 28094 dwt bulk freighter Canadian Miner went aground on Scatarie Island off Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.   The freighter was under tow when the towline parted in heavy seas and it went ashore.   The Miner has 6.5 metric tons of fuel on board to run the generator.   Initial attempts to pull the freighter off the rocks had failed.   The Coast Guard is monitoring the situation, but there were no immediate environmental concerns.   The Miner was en route to Aliaga, Turkey to the breakers.   The Canadian Miner was built as the Maplecliffe Hall in 1966 to haul iron ore and grain on the Great Lakes.
