Orita

On December 8, the 132 meter long, 7993 dwt container ship Orita (IMO: 9318931) became disabled in the Çanakkale Strait near Gelibolu, Turkey.  The Orita had departed from Aliağa bound for Kocaeli when it suffered machine failure and went adrift. The vessel alerted authorities who dispatched the tugboat Kurtarma-20 (IMO: 9995117) and Kurtarma-18 (IMO: 9974890) to assist.  The Kurtarma-20 took the Orita under tow while the Kurtarma-18 escorted the vessels to the Şevketiye Anchorage.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On June 16, the 120 meter long, 8057 dwt heavy list vessel Industrial Challenger (IMO: 9213935) caught fire in the Çanakkale Strait off Kumkale, Turkey. The Industrial Challenger  was headed to Yalova from Marmaris when a fire broke out in the engine room. Reports state the fire was extinguished, but the heavy list vessel sustained engine damage and went adrift.  The KEGM dispatched tugs which took the Industrial Challenger under tow to a nearby anchorage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

 

MSC Prosperity II

MSC Prosperity II

On April 26, the 172 meter long, 20168 dwt container ship MSC Prosperity II (IMO: 9256418) became disabled in the Çanakkale Strait south of Kepez, Turkey. The MSC Prosperity II departed  from Egypt bound for Tuzla when it suffered mechanical failure. Authorities dispatched a tug which took the containership under tow to a secure location. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
