The 88 meter long, 4285 dwt cargo vessel Southern Phoenix capsized and sank in Suva Harbor, Fiji. The Southern Phoenix was berthed loading containers when it suffered water ingress. The crew attempted to stop the inflow, but the flooding could not be contained. The cargo vessel began to list to its port side as it continued to fill with water. Eventually the crew decided there was nothing they could do and evacuated the vessel. The mooring lines were cut loose and a tug pulled the Southern Phoenix away from the berth.
The Southern Phoenix capsized and sank just a short distance away from the pier. Multiple containers broke free and spilled into the water. Several floated and were secured with ropes. Authorities deployed booms around the partially sunken Southern Phoenix to contain any pollution released. No reports of injuries.
The 80 meter long tanker Hordafor V capsized while in drydock at the Nauta Repair Shipyard in Gdynia, Poland. The floating drydock had lost stability and rolled over on its side spilling the tanker into water. No reports of injuries. Authorities laid out booms to contain any pollution released.
The 102 meter long ferry Panagia Parou sank in the Bay of Algeciras at port of Algeciras (Cádiz), Spain. The ferry had sustained damage after strong winds caused the vessel’s mooring ropes to snap. The ferry struck against the pier and suffered a hull breach at the stern. With no crew on board, the flooding continued unabated and the Panagia Parou began to sink.
Port authorities were alerted and attempted to keep the ferry afloat, but the vessel had sunk by the stern with the bow up in the air. Booms were placed around the Panagia Parou as a precautionary measure. A few hours later, the Panagia Parou capsized and sank on its port side.

The Panagia Parou had been docked at the port since March 2013 and later abandoned by its owners. Reports state the owners had failed to pay for repairs and the vessel had been detained. Authorities later emptied the vessel’s tanks and removed all fuel and oil contaminates. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
