On the morning of January 12, a fishing vessel (name not disclosed) capsized in the Yellow Sea at a seaweed farm near Tonggae Port, Pado-ri, Sowon-myeon, Taean-gun, South Korea. The fishing vessel was proceeding when strong winds caused water ingress at the stern.  The vessel then lost stability and capsized sending its 4 crew members into the sea. Three of the crew were pulled from the sea suffering from hypothermia and taken to hospital for treatment. One crew member was found unconscious and taken to hospital, but later died. South Korea Coast Guard have launched an investigation into the incident.

On the morning of January 5, a fishing vessel (name not disclosed) had capsized in the Qiongzhou Strait off  Xuwen, Zhanjiang, China. The fishing vessel had rolled over with 6 crew on board. Nearby fishing vessels would arrive on site and find 5 of the crew holding onto the overturn hull.  One crew member was missing, but was later found to have perished during the incident. His body would be later be recovered.

The cause of the capsizing is not yet known.  Authorities stated the incident was being investigated by local maritime authorities.

 

 

 

Collision off Mihama

The 13.5 ton fishing vessel Konpira Maru capsized after colliding with the 498 tonne coastal tanker Shoyo Maru off Mihama, Japan. The fishing vessel was struck by the passing tanker spilling the two crew into the water.  The Coast Guard reported that only one crewman was later rescued while the other was still missing. No reports of injuries or damage to the tanker Shoyo Maru.  The Shoyo Maru was en route to Kawasaki with 300 tons of chemicals on board.
