Ronja

On April 2, the 90 meter long, 4500 dwt cargo vessel Ronja allided with the northern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Ronja was en route to Sczcecin from Figueira da Foz when it struck the lock gate. The vessel was detained by the water police at Brunsbüttel for an hour until it was allowed to continue on its voyage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

During the early morning hours of March 10, the 110 meter long, 5586 dwt cargo vessel Ibrahim Simsek collided with the 222 meter long, 37938 dwt container ship Stadt Dresden in Izmit Bay, Sea of Marmara near Darica, Turkey. The Ibrahim Simsek struck along the port side of the stern of the Stadt Dresden.  The Stadt Dresden suffered a gash in the hull above the waterline while the Ibrahim Simsek had significant bow damage and lost an anchor. No reports of injuries.

Both vessels dropped anchor near the collision site. Turkish authorities were alerted and dispatched a team to the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 87 meter long, 3600 dwt cargo vessel Guo Xing 1 collided with the 138 gt fishing vessel Daihachi Tomimaru off Tomari, Aomori, Japan. The Fishing vessel struck the Guo Xing 1 breaching the hull resulting in water ingress. The crew could not bring the flooding under control and the cargo vessel sank in 20 minutes. Only one of the 14 crew of the Guo Xing 1 has been rescued. A search and rescue operation was launched for the missing 13 crew. On the Daihachi Tomimaru one crew had a slight injury of the 15 on board. No reports of water ingress or pollution released from the fishing vessel. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
