The 106 meter long, 5022 dwt cargo vessel Mumtaz Amca suffered an explosion in the Black Sea near the Sinop anchorage off Turkey. The Mumtaz Amca was headed to Izmit, Turkey from Tuapse, Russia with a cargo of coal. Conditions had been stormy and the cargo vessel had sought shelter off Sinop before continuing its journey.  While anchored, there was an explosion in the boiler room. One crewman died in the explosion while another was severely injured requiring him to be taken off the Mumtaz Amca and taken to a nearby hospital. The Mumtaz Amca sustained some damage, but no details have been disclosed.

On February 11, the 82 meter long, 1720 dwt cargo vessel Danica Hav ran aground on the Ouse River near Goole, England. The Danica Hav was just off the Goole South Pier when it ran aground. The cargo ship remained aground until the next morning when it was refloated. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the Danica Hav was able leave Goole bound for Rotterdam.

On February 3, the 65 meter long,1241 dwt cargo vessel Tallas ran aground off Zeytinburnu, Turkey. The Tallas was unmanned and at anchored in the Marmara Sea when a storm caused its anchor to drag. Strong winds pushed the Tallas ashore. No injuries and no pollution released.  Reports state the vessel had no fuel on board at the time.
