KM KTC 1

The 83 meter long, 1369 dwt cargo vessel KM KTC 1 ran aground off Karang Jamuang Island near Surabaya, Indonesia. The KM KTC 1 had departed from Tanjung Perak with 3050 tons of limestone bound for Pekanbaru when it ran aground on the rocks. The cargo vessel sustained hull breach and suffered uncontrolled water ingress. Unable to control the flooding, the KM KTC 1 developed a heavy list to starboard. Authorities were alerted and all 16 crew on board the KM KTC 1 were safely evacuated. No reports of injuries.

Reports state the vessel had been overloaded beyond the amount of cargo it was permitted. Authorities were onsite and monitoring the situation.

Allin

On September 25, the 90 meter long cargo vessel Allin suffered a minor accident while loading cargo at Port Dikili in Izmir, Turkey. The Allin was loading some 2810 tons of chipboard when the vessel lost stability and developed a heavy list to port. The cargo of chipboard slid off the deck and crashed onto the quay and into the sea. Those nearby were startled by the noise caused by the cargo shift. No reports of injuries. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 80 meter long, 3041 dwt cargo vessel Atlantic ran aground near Stångehamn, Sweden.  The Atlantic was en route to Oskarshamn from Visby when it ran aground some 6 kilometers from the fairway. Local authorities who were later joined by the Coast Guard arrived on scene and found the officers of the Atlantic were intoxicated. The vessel was found to be hard aground, but no injuries or signs of pollution released.

Reports state the Atlantic had some 44,000 litres of fuel on board at the time of the grounding. Authorities have placed booms around the vessel to contain any possible pollution released. The vessel’s owner and authorities are coordinating salvage options.
