The coastal cargo vessel Duc Cuong 06 sank in the Gulf of Tonkin near the Nghi Son, Vietnam. The Duc Cuong 06 was headed to Ho Chi Minh from Nhgi Son with approximately 4600 tons of clinker on board. Authorities were alerted an hour after leaving port that the vessel was in trouble and requested assistance. The 10 persons on board, nine crew and one passenger, were able to abandon ship before the vessel sank. The 10 people were rescued by nearby port authorities vessels.  No report of injuries.

The cause of the sinking was not reported, but the sinking is under investigation by authorities at Thanh Hoa.

On July 29, the 89 meter long, 2784 dwt cargo vessel Kudma 4 ran aground on the Volga River near the 202 kilometer mark. The vessel was headed to Tver from St. Petersburg when it ran aground. The Kudma 4 did not block river traffic, but was unable to refloat itself.  Authorities were contacted and a salvage operation was launched. Reports state six vessels were involved in the refloating efforts which was successful the following day. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 80 meter long, 3304 dwt cargo vessel Anda sank in the Black Sea near Sevastopol, Crimea. The vessel had departed from Kerch bound for Tripoli with a cargo of wheat. Reports state the vessel ignored gale warnings and headed out into stormy seas.  The vessel didn’t travel far before it lost stability and developed a list. The 9 crew on board abandoned ship with some escaping in the lifeboat and others into the life raft before the Anda capsized and sank.  Search and Rescue were alerted and 8 crew were rescued.  One crewman was listed as missing.
