The 133 meter long freighter Schelde Trader went aground near Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines. The Schelde Trader attempted to leave port during typhoon Yolanda. Reports state the crew remained on board while a tug was requested to refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries.
The 260 dwt passenger ferry Pope John Paul II collided with the freighter RKK 2 in the Mactan Channel off Cebu, Philippines. The ferry had struck the side of the freighter after attempting to avoid an oncoming ship. The Pope John Paul II had slowed down too much and was pulled by the strong current into the RKK which was anchored a short distance of a nearby pier. No reports of injuries to the 742 passengers or 189 crew on board. The RKK 2 suffered minor damage to its side railings The Pope John Paul II was allow to proceed on its voyage to Cagayan de Oro. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
The freighter Anna Jinky went aground off Oslob, Cebu, Philippines. The freighter was en route to Dipolog City from Isabel, Leyte with 10,000 bags of fertilizer when it encountered bad weather and rough seas. The Anna Jinky attempted to seek shelter when it went aground. No reports of injuries to the 19 crew on board. No reports of pollution released. The Philippine Coast Guard stated a tugboat was requested to help refloat the freighter on the next high tide.
