The 1517 dwt passenger ferry Trans-Asia 9 went aground at Lawis Ledge near Talisay City, Philippines.  The Trans-Asia 9 loaded with 364 passengers and 72 crew was en route to Cebu City from Cagayan de Oro when it went aground while trying to avoid a collision with another vessel .  The vessel was able to refloat itself on the high tide and proceeded to Cebu City.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   The Philippine Coast Guard was notified and has detained the vessel until it can inspected for any hull damage.  Reports state the mate was at the helm at the time and made a navigation error resulting in the grounding.

Two Disabled Off Cebu

Two Disabled Off Cebu

The ro-ro ferries Trans-Asia 5 and Trans-Asia 3 became disabled off Cebu, Philippines.   The 3376 dwt Trans-Asia 5 became disabled after suffering engine failure.    The vessel requested assistance with  two tugboats responding.   The tugs took the Trans-Asia 5 under tow and proceeded back to port.    No reports of injuries to the 531 persons on board.   There was no damage or pollution released.

The 110 meter long ferry Trans-Asia 3 became disabled near Cebu City.   The Trans-Asia 3 had departed Ozamis City with 188 passenges and 16 crew when the vessel ran out of fuel.   After a short delay and refueling, the Trans-Asia 3 was able to continue and reached port safely.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  Authorities stated that both vessels will be inspected before they are allowed to sail again.

Georich

Georich

The ferry Georich became disabled in the Tañon Strait while off Alcoy, Cebu, Philippines.  The Georich left Dumaguete bound for Cebu with 400 passengers and crew when one of its engines malfunctioned causing the vessel to go adrift.  The crew were unable to restore power and sent out a distress call.   The Georich’s sister vessel Zamboanga responded and headed to the scene.   The Zamboanga took the Georich under tow and proceeded to Dumaguete.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
