On May 30, the 104 meter long cargo vessel Lian Hang 7 sank in the East China Sea off Ningbo, China. The Lian Hang 7 was en route to Zhoushan from Fujian when it suffered hull failure 10 miles off Ningbo. The vessel’s pumps were unable to control the water ingress and the vessel quickly flooded. The crew alerted authorities the vessel was in danger of foundering and needed assistance. Chinese authorities dispatched a rescue boat to the scene. Authorities were able to rescue 13 of the 14 crew on board. One crewman was missing and presumed trapped as the Lian Hang 7 sank until only part of the superstructure remained above the water.

Reports state the area had been impacted by a cyclone, but it was not a factor in the incident.  No further details reported.

On May 20, the 292 meter long, 177,807 dwt bulk carrier (VLOC) Casta Diva collided with the 180 meter long, 32,650 dwt bulk carrier Ming Lian in the East China Sea off Shanghai, China. The Casta Diva was headed out to sea from Shanghai when it struck the forward starboard section of the Ming Lian. The Ming Lian sustained severe damage including a several meter long hull breach above the waterline, railings destroyed and part of the bridge wing crushed. The Casta Diva sustained scrapes and dents to its bow. No reports of injuries or pollution released on either vessel. Both vessels proceeded to a nearby anchorage to be surveyed.

Reports state both bulk carriers will proceed to shipyards for repairs. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On April 11, the coastal tanker Ningda 10 (mmsi: 412750390) ran aground in the East China Sea off Zhoushan, China. The Ningda 10 was en route to Ningbo when it ran up on the rocks off Zhoushan. The tanker sustained hull damage and the engine room was quickly flooded. Authorities were alerted and the rescue vessel Dong Hai Jiu 118 was dispatched to the scene. The Dong Hai Jiu 118 arrived and rescued all 7 crew safely. No reports of injuries. No details reported if the Ningda 10 has released any pollution or not.
