Collision off Hong Kong

The 85 meter long cargo vessel Ming Yang Zhou 179 collided with the 50 meter long, 900 dwt container ship Sui Dong Fang 332 near Guangzhou, China. The Sui Dong Fang 332 was loaded with 57 containers when the vessel was struck amidships by the Ming Yang Zhou 179. The Sui Dong Fang 332 was holed below the waterline and quickly sank spilling the containers into the water. The 7 crew on board were later rescued.  The Ming Yang Zhou 179 sustained bow damage above the waterline.  Authorities were able to recover 8 containers while another 20 were discovered sunk near the vessel. Reports state traffic was halted until the containers could be cleared away from the port.

Collision off Weihai Isle

The 97 meter long bulk carrier Yang En 1 collided with the 229 meter long bulk carrier Maria G.O. off Weihai Isle, China. The Maria G.O. loaded with 10,000 tons of ore struck the empty Yang En 1 resulting in severe damage to the Yang En 1. The Yang En 1 suffer uncontrolled water ingress and the 14 crew on board abandoned ship. No reports of injuries.  The 19 crew on the Maria G.O. were unharmed and the vessel sustained only slight damage.

The 32 meter oil platform Sedco 709 suffered water ingress while under tow off Shandong, China. The decommissioned rig was headed to Zhoushan when the hull suffered water ingress and caused it to list over. The tow was dropped and the rig was anchored off shore. Reports state the rig is to be dewatered.
