Hong Xiang 29

The 115 meter long freighter Hong Xiang 29 sank in Bohai Bay near Longkou, China.  The Hong Xiang 29 was proceeding to Taizhou from Tianjin when it capsized and sank suddenly in strong winds.  One of the 14 crewmen on board was survived and rescued by authorities.  Search and rescue boats have retrieved 12 bodies.  No further details reported.

Minjiang River Collision

The 66 meter long freighter Yong De Sheng 168 collided with the 78 meter long freighter Fuhang 89 in the Minjiang River in the Fujian Province, China.  The two vessels quickly sank after the collision.   All five crew on board the Fuhang 89 were rescued.   Three crew of the 10 crew from the Yong De Sheng 168  were also rescued from the water.   However, one crewman later perished.  Seven men were still missing.  Rescue boats and helicopters continue to search for the missing crewmen.  Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Hua Shan

The 97 meter long freighter Hua Shan loaded with 4,000 tons of coal caught fire while off Chaolian Island near Qingdao City, China.  The fire started in the vessel’s engine room and quickly went out of control.  Fifteen of the 16 crew were able to escape to the Hua Shan’s lifeboat and were later rescued by a passing ship.   One crewman was reported still stranded on the vessel.   No reports of injuries.   No further details reported.
