The Voyager K had arrived from Russia with 22,000 tons of wheat and remained at the outer anchorage. The port authority attempted to berth the vessel, but the tide had receded and the Voyager K became stuck in the river. Authorities state the vessel was expected to refloat itself on the following rising tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
The motor tanker lighter Kingfisher caught fire on the Karnafuli River at Chittagong, Bangladesh. The fire erupted in the vessel’s engine room when there was an electrical short circuit. The 185 meter long, 45653 dwt bulk freighter Abdullah collided with the 178 meter long, 34070 dwt bulk freighter Fortune Cloud at the outer anchorage off Chittagong, Bangladesh. The Fortune Cloud had its hull bottom ruptured allowing water ingress into the engine room. The flooding could not be stopped and the Fortune Cloud sank until the vessel’s hull was resting on the seabed. The Abdullah also suffered hull damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. A tugboat and naval vessel were dispatched to the scene to aid in the rescue efforts.
