The 42 foot fishing vessel Promise Land caught fire near Jonesport, Maine.   The vessel contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel was on fire and the three persons on board were abandoning ship into the life raft.   The Coast Guard dispatched the two lifeboats, a fix wing aircraft and helicopter to the scene.   The 25 foot response boat arrived on scene and rescued the crew.    They were later taken back to Jonesport.   No reports of injuries.  The Promise Land burned to the waters edge.   The Coast Guard is monitoring the remains of the fishing vessel for any possible environmental impact.

Mary Kay

Mary Kay

The 84 foot long fishing vessel Mary Kay sank near the Dixon Entrance off  Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlottes).   The crew contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel was taking on water and required assistance.   The Coast Guard ordered a helicopter to be launched, but two local fishing vessel were able to come to the Mary Kay’s aid.   The four crew were picked up from a liferaft and transferred to the fishing vessel North Wind.  The North Wind proceeded to Ketchikan.  No reports of injuries.   The Mary Kay had some 2500 gallons of diesel fuel when it sank in 100 fathoms of water.  No signs of pollution has been spotted on the surface.  The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Grim Reaper

Grim Reaper

The fishing vessel Grim Reaper became disabled near Gloucester, Massachusetts.   The fishing vessel had suffered water ingress to the high waves and heavy seas.  The engine room became flooded causing the engine to fail.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard.   The Coast Guard dispatched the 40 foot lifeboat to the scene.  The lifeboat took the Grim Reaper under tow and returned to harbour.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
