On January 6, the 48 meter long cargo vessel Jie Hai 189 collided and sank in Hangzhou Bay near Ningbo, China. Reports state the coaster had been struck by another vessel and quickly sank. Only a single crewman out of 5 on board was rescued. The other 4 crew were listed as missing. No further details reported.
On October 26, the 38 meter long self-propelled barge Mac Gyver, loaded with 350 tons of sand, collided with the combination of the 39 meter long self-propelled barge Hijete and barge Yamoto on the Canal du Nord near Eterpigny, France. Both vessels were unable to establish communications before they collided head-on. The Yamoto sustained damage and water ingress at the bow. Unable to contain the flooding, the local fire brigade was alerted. They arrived on scene and deployed 3 dewatering pumps trying to keep the barge afloat. The flooding was too much for the pumps and the Yamoto sank by the bow. The pumps were pulled off the Yamoto and the entire vessel sank to the bottom of the canal leaving only part of the wheelhouse visible. Authorities laid out booms to contain oil pollution released. Reports state the Yamoto will be later raised and repaired.
The Mac Gyver and Hijete both sustained some damage, but were in no danger of sinking.
On October 2, the 138 meter long, 5150 dwt cargo vessel Volgo Don 147 collided with the 140 meter long, 7441 dwt tanker Gloria on the Don River near Bagaevskaya, Russia. The Volgo Don 147 was headed for the Azov Sea with a cargo of barley when it struck head-on with the Gloria which was proceeding upstream in ballast. Both vessels sustained significant bow damage including hull breaches and water ingress on the Volgo Don 147. No reports of injuries. Both vessels drop anchor nearby to allow authorities to conduct an investigation. Reports state both vessels were not in danger of sinking. Tugs were dispatched to take the vessels under tow.
