The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Rhenus Duisburg collided with the self-propelled tanker Eiltank 66 on the Wesel-Datteln Canal near the locks at Friedrichsfeld, Germany.  The two ships were approaching each other when a navigational mistake caused both vessels to collide head-on. Both vessels sustained bow damage and water ingress. The local fire brigade arrived on scene and provided de-watering pumps to keep both vessels afloat. Traffic was halted on the canal as several hours of salvage work was completed on both barges.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The water police launched an investigation into the incident. The Rhenus Duisburg was headed to Voerde from Dorsten while the Eiltank 66 had departed from Voerda. Damage was reported to be over 100,000 €.

The 105 meter long river passenger ship Hemingway collided with a barge on the Waal near Deest, Netherlands. The Hemingway had suffered rudder failure when it struck the cement laden barge. No reports of injuries to the 79 passengers or crew on board the Hemingway or those on the barge.  The Hemingway was later escorted to a shipyard in Dodewaard by authorities to conduct an investigation into the incident.

The 158 meter long bulk carrier Tolunay collided with the Turkish Coast Guard boat SG-25 in the Bosphorus, Turkey. The Tolunay was headed to Odessa from Casablanca when it struck the SG-25 causing it to capsize. Six of the seven crew members of the SG-25 were later rescued, but one man remained missing. Three of the rescued sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. The Tolunay proceeded to the anchorage off Buyukdere while authorities conduct an investigation.
