On October 19, the 180 meter long, 46874 dwt tanker Elixir collided with the 80 meter long, 4500 dwt tanker Good Success off Bonga FPSO, Nigeria. Both tankers were proceeding in low visibility when the Elixir struck the Good Success.  The Good Success quickly sank with 12 crew on board.  Three of the crew were later rescued, but the remaining remain missing or lost.  The details of the collision have not yet been reported, but authorities have stated that a last minute change of course caused the collision.  The tanker Elixir has been detained by authorities until the investigation is completed.

Sulphur Garland

The 101 meter long, 4965 dwt tanker Sulphur Garland collided with the 90 meter long, 2018 gt tanker Wako Maru No. 2 in the Shimonoseki Strait near Shimonoseki City, Japan. The Sulphur Garland struck the Wako Maru No. 2  on its starboard hull. The Wako Maru No. 2 was holed and released some 13,000 litres of fuel oil was spilled into the sea. Reports state an oil slick formed around the tanker.  The bow of the Sulphur Garland was crushed, but no reports of pollution released. No reports of injuries on either vessel. Authorities dispatched vessels to the scene to collect some of the pollution from the sea and place booms around the Wako Maru No.2.

River Concerto

The 110 meter long river passenger ship River Concerto collided with a self-propelled tanker-barge on the Rhine near Rees, Germany. The River Concerto had passed the tanker while proceeding up the river when the bow of the tanker struck the starboard stern of the River Concerto. The passenger ship sustained significant damage, but there was no water ingress.  None of the crew or the 135 passengers on board were injured. The River Concerto was able to proceed under its own power to Rees where passsengers were safely transported to another vessel.  The River Concerto was inspected by divers. Damage was reported to be over 10,000 Euros. The name of the tanker-barge was not reported.
