The 72 meter long, 1,105 dwt cargo vessel Akel collided with the 60 meter long Sengul K in the Bosphorus near the entrance to the Black Sea. The Akel was struck by the Sengul K in good visibility.  Reports state the officer on board the Sengul K made a last second maneuver veering into the Akel. The Akel  suffered uncontrolled water ingress caused the cargo vessel to capsized and sink.  One crewman was killed, but the 11 other crew members were rescued.  The Sengul K suffered slight damage to its bow, but no reports of injuries.  The Akel was en route to Istanbul from Kartal.

Two barges collided in the Intracoastal Waterway off Galveston, Texas. Two tugboats were pushing barges off the Bolivar Peninsula when one of the tugboats suffered a power blackout.  The barge being pushed by the disabled tug struck a second barge.  A barge was loaded with 3500 tonnes of naphtha caught fire.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze four  hours later. No injuries reported. The Coast Guard has dispatched a team to the scene to check for any pollution released or environmental impact.  An investigation into the incident has been launched.

The 130 meter long, 11,258 dwt tanker Ternvind collided with the 182 meter long, 6,559 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Stena Jutlandica off the island of Vinga near Gothenburg, Sweden. The tanker had departed from Gothenburg en route to Halmstad when it struck the portside of the Stena Jutlandica. The ferry sustained significant hull damage with a several meter long hole above the waterline.  Reports state the Stena Jutlandica did suffer water ingress, but was able to proceed to Gothenburg under her own power.  Many of the 536 passengers on board were awoken by the sound of the crash, but no reports of injuries.  Authorities dispatched vessels to monitor the situation and inspect the vessels.  No pollution was released.  The Ternvind was last reported anchored off Vinga with no injuries or pollution released.
