Collision off Callao

On March 24, the 330 meter long, 134007 dwt container ship MSC Shuba B and the 266 meter long, 63200 dwt container ship Laura Maersk collided in the port of Callao, Peru.  The Laura Maersk was maneuvering in the port when it’s bow struck the stern hull of the MSC Shuba B. Both vessels sustained only slight damage and there were no injuries or pollution released. Authorities inspected both vessels and allowed them to proceed on their voyage the following day.

The 300 meter long, 94600 dwt container ship Tolten allided with the 239 meter long, 72982 dwt container ship Hamburg Bay in Karachi, Pakistan. The Tolten was maneuvering to berth in the harbor when it’s port side scraped against the moored Hamburg Bay.  More than 20 containers broke free off the Tolten and feel into the water.

No reports of injuries. Hull damage to either vessel has not been disclosed.  Pollution from torn containers have been reported in the harbor. Terminal operations have halted in Karachi while containers are recovered.

The 158 meter long, 14230 dwt container ship Beatriz B became disabled off Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canaries Islands. The Beatriz B had suffered engine failure and went adrift. A tug was dispatched to the scene and took the Beatriz B under tow.  A short time later the crew was able to make repairs and restored power. The Beatriz B proceeded to the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma under tug escort.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
