On the night of April 25, the 200 meter long, 34152 dwt container ship KMTC Surabaya (IMO: 9821081) collided with the 181 meter long, 37679 dwt bulk carrier Glengyle (IMO: 9727285) on the Long Tau River at An Thoi Dong, Ho chi Minh, Vietnam. The KMTC Surabaya bow struck the Glengyle just forward the superstructure along its port hull nearly breaking the vessel in two. With part of the hull ripped open, the Glengyle sustained uncontrolled water ingress in one of the holds and engine room causing the vessel to partially sink by the stern. The KMTC Surabaya sustained bow damage, but was able to contain the water ingress and was in no danger of sinking. There were no reports of injuries on either vessel.

Vietnamese Authorities responded to the incident and found the Glengyle had released oil pollution resulting in an oil sheen around both vessels. Containment booms were placed to contain the pollution.

Reports state the vessels were still locked together as both vessels drifted towards the shoreline. Salvage plans state the vessels will be pulled away from each other. Authorities state that maritime traffic in the area was not impacted by the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On April 19, the 139 meter long, 11816 dwt container ship MSC Talia F  (IMO: 9308601) became disabled on the Atlantic Ocean off  Punta Melenara, Spain. The MSC Talia F loaded with containers  had suffered engine failure and went adrift in rough conditions with winds reaching 30 knots and waves reaching 2 meters.

The MSC Talia F contacted authorities requesting assistance. The Salvamento Marítimo deployed the tugboat Heroínas de Sálvora to assist.  The tug was able to take the container ship under tow and proceeded to Port La Palmas. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the MSC Talia F was able to make repairs and proceed on its voyage to Nouakchott, Mauritania.

On April 9, the 350 meter long, 120853 dwt container ship CMA CGM Pelleas (IMO: 9365788) ran aground in the English Channel at Southampton, England.  The CMA CGM Pelleas was departing from its berth in Southampton bound for Rotterdam when it made a navigation error and nearly struck a retaining wall, but instead ran aground just short of the wall.

Harbour tugs were able to quickly pull the container ship free and escort the vessel to a berth.  There were no reports of injuries.  The CMA CGM Pelleas is to be inspected for any damage from the incident.  The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has launched an investigation into the incident.
