The 81 meter long, 2300 dwt freighter Kelarvi became disabled in the Elbe Estuary near Cuxhaven, Germany.  The Kelarvi had suffered a total power blackout after its main engine failed.  The crew was able to drop anchor to keep the vessel from going aground.   The vessel requested assistance with two tugs responding.  The tugs towed the Kelarvi to Cuxhaven.   There the vessel was repaired and continued on its journey a few days later.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 132 meter long, 82908 dwt container ship Merwedijk became disabled at Cuxhaven.   The container ship had left the quay bound for Rotterdam when it suffered engine failure and power blackout.   The Merwedijk attempted to slow down by dropping anchor but drifted into a jetty.   The jetty was damaged in the allision while the Merwedijk sustained minimal damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Merwedijk was allowed to continue its voyage the next day.

Hanse Spirit

The 142 meter long, 9654 dwt container ship Hanse Spirit became disabled on the Elbe River after suffering an engine failure.  The vessel dropped anchor and requested assistance.   A tug towed the Hanse Spirit to Cuxhaven where it berthed and will undergo repairs.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
