Vessel Sinks on Danube

A vessel sank near the left bank of the Danube near Eckartsau, Austria.   The vessel being pushed by a dredger was heading upstream when it swung perpendicular to the flow of the river and sank.   No one was injured, but river traffic has been closed near the wreck.

A 110 meter long passenger ship’s bow struck the Jochenstein lock wall while sailing from Passau to Budapest.   With 160 passengers on board, the vessel suffered 10,000 € damage to the bow.   All the damage was above the waterline and the ship was allowed to continue on to Budapest.  The lock sustained damage around 5000 €.    No one was injured in the incident.   The lock was able to opperate and boat traffic was not impacted.  Report from lock kepper at Jochenstein, Germany.

Sterlet Aground

Sterlet Aground

The 66.87 meter long freighter Sterlet sailing from Budapest ran aground on the Danube River near the 1669 kilometer mark.   The Sterlet had veered out of the shipping lanes when it became stuck.   No further details reported.
