On the evening of January 22, the 105 meter long, 5762 dwt cargo vessel Burak (IMO: 9195913) went adrift on the Dardanelles Strait off Kepez, Turkey. The Burak was proceeding to Tuzla from Messina in ballast when it suffered engine failure. Authorities dispatched the tugs Türkeli and Kurtarma 18 to assist. The tugs took the Burak under tow and proceeded to Karanlık Liman where the cargo vessel safely dropped anchor. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On November 16, the 289 meter long, 172247 dwt bulk carrier Capt Nature (IMO: 9181118) became disabled in the Dardanelles Strait off Gallipoli, Turkey. The Capt Nature while en route to Port Said suffered engine failure and went adrift. Unable to restart the engine, the Capt Nature contacted authorities at Çanakkale. Authorities dispatched the tugs Kurtarma-3, Kurtarma-4 and Kurtarma-13 to take the bulk carrier under tow. The vessels proceeded to anchorage off Karanlık Liman.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Ioanna G Disabled

The 16,408 dwt freighter Ioanna G became disabled in Dardanelles Strait after suffering engine failure.  The master of the Ioanna G  tried to reject assistance until he could get an approval from the owner.  However, the vessel was taken under tow to the Tuzla Shiprepair Yard.    The Ioanna G had a cargo of  15,200 metric tons of sugar bound for Odessa.
