The 42 meter long, 515 gt fishing vessel Soley Sigurjons caught fire while fishing near Akureyri, Iceland. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room while fishing off northern Iceland. The crew sealed the engine room and activated the fire suppression system.  The fire was extinguished, but the engine room was badly damaged.  Disabled, the Soley Sigurjons required assistance with a MRCC helicopter dispatched to the scene. A nearby fishing vessel came to her aid to help hoist her nets.  The Soley Sigurjons was taken under tow back to Akureyi. No reports of injuries.

The 41 meter long, 151 dwt passenger cargo vessel Binh Thuan 16 ran aground off Phan Thiet, Vietnam. The Binh Thuan 16 was carrying 150 passengers and cargo when it suffered a power blackout and drifted onto a reef off the Phu Quy coast. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Nearby authorities safely brought the passengers ashore. Reports state some cargo was discharged, but more will be unloaded if the Binh Thuan 16 can not be refloated. Authorities state the cause of the incident was due to sedimentation along the estuary.

The 40 meter long cargo vessel Zhe Pu 01833 ran aground near Taohua Dao, China.  The Zhe Pu 01833 had suffered engine failure while en route to Zhoushan with 300 tonnes of cement.  The cargo vessel and drifted on the reef breaching the hull. The vessel’s pumps were unable to control the flooding in the cargo hold and the Zhe Pu 01833 later sank.  All 5 crew on board were able to abandon ship into the life raft and were later safely rescued by a Coast Guard vessel.  The Zhe Pu 01833 was en route to Ningbo from Taizhou.
