Moresby 9

On May 20, the 78 meter long, 2408 dwt tanker Moresby 9 allided with a bridge over the Trang River near Phuket, Thailand. The Moresby 9 was en route to a repair yard when it suffered engine failure and lost power. Strong currents and wind pushed the disabled tanker into the bridge causing severe damage to the bridge. Some 10 meters of concrete on the bridge was crushed and closed the bridge to all traffic. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 130 meter long, 11249 dwt tanker Scorpius became disabled off Drøbak, Norway. The Scorpius had departed from Kalundborg, Denmark bound for Oslo when it suffered engine failure off Drøbak. The tanker began to drift, but was brought under control with the aid of several tugs.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the crew of the Scorpius restored power and continued on its voyage.

The 100 meter long, 5065 dwt cargo vessel Victoria became disabled on the Bosporus. The Victoria was en route to Ukraine from Turkey when it suffered engine failure near the entrance to the strait. A tug came to the Victoria’s assistance and towed it to an anchorage in the Marmara Sea. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
