The 177 meter long, 23574 dwt container ship Gladys went aground in the Bay of Bengal off Cheduba Island, Myanmar. The Gladys hull was breached suffering water ingress. The engine room was flooded leaving the Gladys without power. The crew abandoned ship except for three men who stayed on board waiting for a salvage tug to arrive from Singapore. The vessel is to be towed to be refloated and taken to Chittagong.
The 19 meter long, 68 rt fishing vessel Fleur de France J.86 became disabled off Point of Ayre near Ramsey, Isle of Man. The fishing vessel had fouled its propeller and rudder and required assistance. The Ramsey RNLI lifeboat responded to the scene and took the Fleur de France under tow. The lifeboat was assisted by another fishing vessel which allowed the vessels to safely enter the harbour entrance. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
The 77 foot long integrated tug and barge Hook Point-Alaganik went ashore in the Gulf of Alaska at the mouth of the Seal River near Cordova, Alaska. The Hook Point-Alaganik was being used as part of a tsuami clean-up effort when it encountered heavy seas and strong current from the Seal River. The vessel swung broadside into the waves and was struck by a large piece of river ice. The tug-barge suffered damage to its mechanical system and both were driven ashore onto the beach. Both tug and barge sustained significant damage. The two crew on board donned survival suits and abandoned ship. No reports of injuries. The Coast Guard was contacted and a helicopter was dispatched to the scene. A small sheen was spotted near the barge. Authorities have placed a boom around the vessel along with sorbent pads as a precautionary measure.
