On March 10, the fishing vessel Ms. Nicani became disabled in a severe storm off Yaquina Bay, Oregon. The fishing vessel was a few miles off shore when a wave smashed the pilothouse window and ruin the electrical systems.  The disabled Ms. Nicani requested assistance with two Coast Guard  47-foot Motor Life Boat responding. The Coast Guard was able to connect a towline to the Ms. Nicani, but the vessels remained off shore until conditions improve.  Reports state that waves were between 20 to 25 foot high making it impossible to cross the Yaquina Bay bar.  No reports of injuries to the three crew on board the Ms. Nicani.

The 104 meter long heavy lift carrier Papenburg became disabled on the Ems River. The Papenburg had suffered engine failure while en route to Papenburg from Rostock.  The vessel was able to make  an emergency anchoring to avoid going aground. Two tugs were dispatched and towed the Papenburg to Emden.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On March 1, the 294 meter long, 67751 dwt container ship Kalliopi became disabled off Le Havre, France. The Kalliopi had suffered a total power blackout just as it departed from Le Havre, France. The vessel dropped anchor and attempted to carry out repairs.  The following day authorities dispatched a helicopter with an emergency team who were lowered to the deck of the Kalliopi.  The container ship was unable to keep at it’s anchor due to rough conditions. Both crew and the emergency team connected a towline to the emergency tug Abeille Liberté which arrived from Cherbourg. The Abeille Liberté towed the Kalliopi into Le Harve.  No reports of injuries to the 24 crew on board, damage or pollution released.
