The 88 meter long cargo vessel Amadeus Amethist became disabled in the English Channel near Fécamp, France. The Amadeus Amethist was headed to Fécamp from Antwerp in ballast when it suffered engine failure in rough seas. The crew dropped anchor and requested assistance.  Tugs were dispatched to assist as the cargo vessel was being pushed by the strong winds and heavy seas.  As the risk of the vessel going ashore increased, a helicopter was dispatched to the scene.  The helicopter lowered personnel to the Amadeus Amethist and was able to assist in restarting the engine. The vessel proceed into port a few hours later. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 116 meter long ro-ro passenger ship  Yun Hai ran aground in the Taiwan Strait off Penghu Island, Taiwan. The Yun Hai was en route  to Indonesia from Fuzhou when it lost power and drifted onto an offshore reef. The Taiwanese Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and airlifted all 11 crew to safety.  The vessel had no passengers on board.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the vessel only has 145 tons of fuel on board at the time as it had been recently sold to new owners in Indonesia.

The 89 meter long, 2535 dwt fishing vessel American Eagle caught fire in the Pacific Ocean some 1800 miles south of the Hawaiian Islands. The owner of the American Eagle notified the United States Coast Guard that the fishing vessel had caught fire and went adrift. The 40 crew on board had abandoned ship into two life rafts, three work boats and one skiff. The crew had activated an emergency radio beacon which help aid rescue efforts. An aircraft arrived on scene later the same day and was able to drop a dewatering pump, flashlights and flares to the crew.

Fong Seong 888

The 75 meter, 2300 dwt tanker Fong Seong 888 also arrived  on scene a short time later to aid in rescue efforts.  The Fong Seong 888 safely rescued 33 crew. The 7 crew aided the master of the American Eagle to extinguish the blaze on the fishing vessel. Reports state the crew were able to extinguish the blaze and restart the vessel’s generator.  The fishing vessel American Victory, sister ship to the American Eagle, was en route to the scene to take over rescue efforts.
