The 88 meter long, 2864 dwt cargo vessel Elland sank off Durankulak, Bulgaria.  The Elland had departed from Constanta with a cargo of plywood bound for Izmir when it became disabled due to an engine failure. While the crew attempted repairs to restore power, the cargo shifted.  The Elland began to list 15 degrees to starboard with the list increasing the following hours.  The crew  sent out a distress call fearing the Elland may capsize.  The 11 crew abandoned ship into the vessel’s lifeboat  and were later rescued by the passing cargo vessel M. Izmir.  The Elland eventually capsized and sank in 50 meters of water.  No reports of injuries.  An oil film was spotted where the vessel sank.  Reports state the Elland had 10 tons of fuel on board at the time.
