On the afternoon of December 15, the fishing vessel QT-90559-TS capsized in the East Vietnam Sea 3 nautical miles northeast of Cồn Cỏ Island, Vietnam (17.10’55” North, 107.24′.42” East). The fishing vessel had capsized and sank in large waves whiles fishing off the island.  Vietnamese authorities received a distress signal and launched a rescue mission. Fortunately, the fishing vessel QT-91090-TS was nearby and rescued all 6 crew members from the QT-90559-TS. The crew were later safely taken ashore where they received medical treatment.

An initial investigation found the QT-90559-TS  and fishing gear onboard had suffered severe damage. Reports state the cost of the damage was estimated to be  around 3 billion VND.

On the early morning of November 27, a fishing vessel (name not disclosed) sank in the East Vietnam Sea near the mouth of the Ham Luong River off Bến Tre, Vietnam. The fishing vessel had sunk after being struck by large waves and strong winds.  The two crew on board jumped into the sea as the vessel sank beneath them. Vietnamese authorities received reports of the vessel being in distress and mobilized a board patrol vessel to the scene. After 4 hours in the sea, authorities would rescue the 2 crew members. They were taken ashore and reported to be in stable condition.

BT-92263-TS

On the morning of March 1, the fishing vessel BT-92263-TS capsized and sank in the East Vietnam Sea near Ben Tre, Vietnam. The fishing vessel had  capsized due to the heavy seas and strong winds. Authorities assisted by nearby fishing vessels searched the area for the BT-92263-TS and its four crew.  Reports state the four crew were found later adrift in the sea.  The crew would be  rescued and were taken back  to port of Ba Tri.  News accounts state the crew members sustained minor injuries and were later taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities stated the BT-92263-TS sunk, but no details if any pollution was released.
