The 81 meter long, 2300 dwt freighter Kelarvi became disabled in the Elbe Estuary near Cuxhaven, Germany.  The Kelarvi had suffered a total power blackout after its main engine failed.  The crew was able to drop anchor to keep the vessel from going aground.   The vessel requested assistance with two tugs responding.  The tugs towed the Kelarvi to Cuxhaven.   There the vessel was repaired and continued on its journey a few days later.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 80 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Beate went aground on the Elbe River near Magdeburg, Germany.  The Beate was entering the basin of the canal when it went struck an embankment.   The Beate suffered hull damage with one cargo tank breached allowing one ton of diesel fuel to be released.    Local fire brigade responded to the scene and deployed containment booms around the Beate.  An environmental crew will later vacuum the diesel fuel from the water.  No reports of injuries.  The crew was able to make repairs with a temporary patch to the hull.  The water police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Belgem and Arzberg Elbe ferry became disabled near Belgem, Germany. The ferry had suffered an engine room fire which was quickly extinguished by the crew. However, the vessel became stuck on the Elbe blocking river traffic. Local authorities were able to pull the ferry back to the Arzberg side. No reports of injuries or pollution being released. The extent of damage and how long the ferry will remain out of service was not reported.
