The 117 meter long, 6678 dwt tanker Xing Long Zhou 569 caught fire after suffering an explosion off Shandong, China. The crew of the Xing Long Zhou 569 requested assistance as the explosion had disabled the vessel and fire quickly engulfed the vessel.

Multiple rescue vessels along with a helicopter were dispatched to the scene. The helicopter rescued 13 of the 16 crew on board. Three crew were listed as missing and presumed perished in the explosion.

Salvage vessels arrived later and were able to bring the blaze under control. The Xing Long Zhou 569 was taken under tow to Shidao. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The ferry Zahro Express exploded and caught fire off Muara Angke, Indonesia. The Zahro Express had departed from the port of Kali Adem, Muara Angke with 234 passengers bound for Tidung Island. After 15 minutes leaving port, the ferry suffered an explosion and resulting fire in the engine room.  Dense smoke poured out of the compartment causing panic among the passengers. Passengers rushed forward to escape the smoke and flames. The crew was unable to control the blaze and sent out a distress call.

Some jumped overboard while others waited until rescue boats arrived on scene. Reports state some 194 persons were rescued. The Coast Guard was able to recover some 23 bodies of those who perished. An additional 17 persons were still reported as missing. 

The fire consumed the superstructure of the Zahro Express. Authorities were eventually able to douse the flames, but only the lower hull remained. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

The 73 meter long, 2599 dwt tanker Nona Tang II exploded in the Singapore Strait while berthed at Batu Ampar, Batam City, Indonesia.  The vessel was undergoing repairs when welders on the cargo deck ignited fuel vapors. One worker was instantly killed while two others were badly burned. The Nona Tang II continued to burn until local fire brigades and two patrol boats arrived on scene. The fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze a short time later. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Initial reports state the welders did not have permits to conduct repair work at the time of the incident in violation of safety laws.
