The 50 meter long passenger ro-ro ferry Insula Oya 2 ran aground in the Fromentine Channel off Vendée, France. The Insula Oya 2 was enroute from Fromentine to Yeu when it stranded on a sandbar. The vessel remained “high-and-dry” as the ferry was left on the bar in the receding tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The SNSM lifeboat from Fromentine arrived on scene and transferred the two passengers from the Insula Oya 2 back to shore. During the next high tide, multiple SNSM lifeboats were able to refloat the Insula Oya 2.

On August 9, the 81 meter long, 1786 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Med Star caught fire while berthed in Tripoli, Lebanon. The Med Star was preparing to depart for Turkey when fire was spotted by the crew. The fire quickly engulfed the ferry as the crew and local fire brigade attempted to extinguish it. Reports state the fire swept through the superstructure before it was brought under control. No reports of injuries, but the Med Star sustained significant damage. The source of the fire was not yet known.

The 72 meter long, 1680 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Lite Ferry 8 ran aground in Cebu City, Philippines.  The ferry was headed for Cagayan de Oro City with 41 passengers when it stranded during low tide.  The Philippine Coast Guard was alerted  and the voyage was cancelled. The 41 passengers were safely transferred back ashore by two tugboats. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Lite Ferry 8 was refloated on the following high tide and returned to the pier to be inspected for damage.
