The 29 meter long high-speed ferry Cacilhas caught fire between Hong Kong and Macau.  The ferry had left from the Sheung Wan terminal with 134 passengers when the fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room by a malfunctioning machine.  Black smoke and fire erupted out of the starboard side funnel.  All passengers were transferred to the lower deck while the local fire brigade responded. The fire was extinguished and the ferry was towed back to the Sheung Wan terminal. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On October 7, the 87 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Ullensvang allided with the pier at Sulesund, Norway. The ferry had suffered a failure of one its propellers when it slammed into the pier.  The ferry hit with enough force to cause vehicles to crash into each other and throw passengers off their feet. Reports state there were no serious injuries. The Ullensvang suffered damage to its bow gate and was removed from service for repairs. No pollution was released.

The 50 foot long four-car cable ferry Ironton Ferry caught fire while moored in Ironton, Michigan on Lake Charlevoix.  The fire started in one of the vehicles on the deck.  The fire was extinguished a short time later by the local fire department.  No reports of injuries to passengers or crew on board.  The Ironton ferry operates between mid-April through mid-November making  upwards of 100 trips across Lake Charlevoix each day.
