On May 16, the 37 meter long passenger vessel Maui Princess (MMSI: 367331770) ran aground off the west coast of Maui near Lahaina, Hawaii. The Maui Princess had broken free from its mooring and went adrift before it went hard aground on a bar some 300 feet offshore. No reports of injuries.

Authorities dispatched a response team to the scene. They found the passenger vessel had not released any pollution, but still posed a high risk. A contractor was hired and begun removal of 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel off the vessel.

On January 14, the 116 meter long, 1695 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Kennicott allided with the 85 meter long, 450 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Hubbard in Ketchikan, Alaska. The Kennicott struck the Hubbard while attempting to berth. The Kennicott sustained a damaged sponson and window while the Hubbard had only minimal damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities were alerted of the incident and an investigation was launched.

On December 29, 2021, the 135 meter long, 3250 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry KMP Amadea ran aground in the Sundra Strait off the island of Kandang Lunik, Indonesia. The KMP Amadea departed from Bakauheni with 342 passengers and 97 vehicles on board when strong winds and currents caused the vessel to run aground on a coral reef. Reports state the ferry remained stuck for 14 hours until tugs arrived to free the vessel. Initial attempts to free the ferry failed and the vessel remained aground on the reef.  No reports of injuries.  Authorities are on scene and working on a recovery plan. Reports states many passengers on board were irate and wanted to be removed off the vessel.
