On July 16, the 74 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Freja ran ashore in the Jungfru Sound  at  Ekerö, Sweden. The Freja had suffered engine problems as it approached the quay at Ekerö . Without power the ferry was unable to maneuver and ran onto the shoreline. Authorities were alerted and one passenger was treated for minor injuries.  The Freja sustained some damage and a small amount of oil was released into the water. Authorities placed the booms around the vessel to prevent any further pollution.  The Freja was reloated several hours later.  The incident is under investigation.

Eurocargo Trieste

The 185 meter long ro-ro cargo vessel Eurocargo Trieste allided with the 191 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Hellenic Spirit at Patras, Greece. The Eurocargo Trieste was attempting to moor when it struck the port side of the Hellenic Spirit.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released on either vessel. Both vessels were inspected and were allowed to leave port the following day.
