The 25 meter long tugboat Mons ran aground off the island of Airisto near Turku, Finland. The Mons had suffered rudder failure when it drifted aground. No reports of injuries to the three crew on board. Authorities arrived on scene and found there was some oil pollution around the tugboat. Booms were placed around the vessel and most of the pollution was hydraulic oil and was recovered by absorbent pads. Divers inspected the hull and found it remained intact.  The Mons was later refloated and was able to proceeded to Turku under its own power.

The 163 meter long, ro-ro cargo vessel Finnkraft caught fire near Helsinki, Finland. The fire started in a heating system on a stairwell in the bow section.  The fire spewed toxic smoke spreading to several decks.  The crew quickly responded and was able to bring the fire under control and later assisted by the local fire brigade in extinguishing the blaze.  The smoke was then later ventilated from the areas impacted.  No reports of injuries.

On January 19, The 12 meter long fishing vessel Bärbel sank off Nagu, Finland. The Bärbel was fishing when it developed a list to starboard and began to fill with water.  The two crew on board abandoned ship and rescued by a nearby trawler Huovari.  The Bärbel sank a short time later in 30 meters of water. Authorities dispatched a patrol vessel and helicopter to the scene to inspect the area for any pollution released.  No further details reported.
