Nordanvik

NORDANVIK

The 97 meter long, 5700 dwt cement freighter Nordanvik caught fire in the Baltic Sea near Turku, Finland.  The fire started in the Nordanvik’s engine room disabling the vessel.   The crew requested assistance with a local firefighting  brigade being flown by helicopter to the vessel.   The firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.  No reports of injuries.   The Nordanvik was taken under tow to Pargas for repairs.

Estelle

Estelle

The 53 meter long, 320 dwt 3-masted sailing ship Estelle ran aground near Nagu, Finland.  The Estelle was en route to the Mediterranean Sea from Turku with 17 persons on board when its main engine failed.   The crew dropped anchor, but the water was too deep.   The Estelle drifted until it drifted ashore on a beach at Lydarudd.  The Finish Coast Guard responded sending a rescue boat to the scene.   The rescue boat was able to refloat the Estelle and take it under tow.   The vessels proceeded to Retais where the Estelle will be taken to a shipyard for inspection.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   Reports state the engine failed because the vessel ran out of fuel.

The 151 meter long, 13200 dwt container ship Phoenix J ran aground in the Gulf of Bothnia near Rauma, Finland.  The Phoenix J suffered hull damage with water ingress into ballast tanks and cargo holds.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   Divers was only able to inspect part of the hull as the vessel remains firmly aground on the rocky bottom.  The MRCC has a vessel standing by in case the crew need to evacuate the vessel.   Salvagers plan to pump out water before attempting to refloat the vessel    The boxship had left Rauma loaded with containers bound for Gävle, Sweden before going aground in 5 meters of water.
