On July 8, the inland passenger vessel Hein Mück (ENI: 4808130) caught fire on the Weser River near Bremerhaven, Germany. The Hein Mück was doing a cruise of the Kaiserhafen when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The three man crew on board was able to contain the blaze using an onboard fire extinguisher. No reports of injuries to the 36 passengers and 3 crew. The vessel proceeded to a nearby quay where passengers were safely brought ashore. Local fire brigade arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze. No further details reported.

On May 22, the 118 meter long, 6850 dwt container ship Elisabeth caught fire on the Kiel Canal near Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Elisabeth was proceeding to Hamburg from Settin when a fire broke out in the vessel’s stack. Soot had accumulated and had ignited inside the funnel. The crew quickly responded and was able to contain the blaze until the local fire brigade arrived. The fire brigade was able to to extinguish the blaze. Reports state there was just minor damage to the stack. After an inspection, the Elisabeth was allowed to proceed on its voyage an hour later. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On January 19, the 200 meter long, 63529 dwt bulk carrier Royal Jade caught fire while berthed at the Karachi, Pakistan. The Royal Jade had arrived from Russia with a cargo of 57,750 tons of wheat. While the Royal Jade was being unloaded, a fire broke out on the cargo deck spewing out smoke around the vessel. Authorities responded sending a firefighters along with a fire tug to assist in dousing the fire. Reports states additional resources arrived on scene in case the fire could not be brought under control. No reports of injuries. The source of the fire is suspected to a carbide that caught fire on the deck.
