The 70 meter long self-propelled barge Janna caught fire on the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Lingen, Germany.  The fire started in the forward cargo hold when an exhaust pipe ignited the cargo of sugar beet pellets. The crew attempted to extinguish the blaze when the local fire brigade arrived.  With twenty men, the fire fighters were able to contain the fire and removed any smoldering cargo. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 35 meter long fishing vessel Calypso Z84 caught fire while fishing in the Bay of Biscay near La Rochelle, France. The fire started in an electrical panel in the engine room.  The crew responded quickly and extinguished the blaze, but the fire damaged the trawler’s generator.  The crew made some temporary repairs to restore power and allow the vessel to pull in its nets.  No reports of injuries to the 5 crew on board.  Authorities dispatched a team to the trawler who evaluated the Calypso Z84 condition.  After the inspection, the trawler was found to be seaworthy enough to proceed on to its journey back to Belgium.

The 145 meter long, 7341 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Volcán de Teneguía became disabled off Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. The vessel was en route to Santa Cruz from Cádiz when it suffered a fire in the engine room. The crew was able to contain the fire quickly, but the fire had damaged the main engine.  Without power the Volcán de Teneguía went adrift.  Authorities dispatched response vessels to the scene.  The pollution control vessel Miguel de Cervantes arrived on scene and took the cargo vessel under tow.  The vessels proceeded to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria where it arrived the following day.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
