On the afternoon of March 13, the 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge RP Praag (IMO: 9982847) caught fire on the Rhine near Grimlingshausen, Germany. The fire erupted in the engine room  releasing dense smoke. A fire recue boat from Neuss arrived on scene with fire fighters who boarded the RP Praag.  An inspection found the fire had extinguished itself and only the engine room was filled with smoke. Fire fighters used ventilators to clear smoke out of the compartment.  One crew member sustained injuries from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The RP Praag was able to proceed to Neuss where it berthed. Damage from the fire was not disclosed. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On the morning of February 18, the 22 meter long, 163 gt towboat Thor (IMO: 8842246) caught fire on the Delaware River near Pea Patch Island, Pennsylvania. The Thor was pushing two barges between Delaware City and Old New Castle when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The crew was able to escape the blaze, but the fire had disabled the steering and the towboat went adrift. The crew sent out a distress call and were rescued by a nearby vessel. No reports of injuries.

The United States Coast Guard along with local authorities dispatched fire fighting vessels to the scene. Reports states the fire was extinguished and the Thor was taken under tow by the tug Wye River (IMO: 9512379).  The incident is under investigation.

On February 19, the fishing vessel Raviprakash caught fire on the Arabian Sea at its berth in Baputhota Harbour, India. Bystanders noticed the fire and alerted the local fire brigade who quickly responded to the scene. Fire fighters attempted to extinguish the blaze, but the fire had already consumed the fishing vessel. Fortunately, the fire was not able to spread to the 30 other vessels docked nearby.  No reports of injuries. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.

The Raviprakash and the fishing equipment on board was estimated to be a total loss of 1.5 million Rupees.
