On the early morning of November 18, the 24 meter long, 168 gt fishing vessel Virginia Wave (MMSI: 367696380) ran aground in Narragansett Bay south of Jamestown, Rhode Island. The vessel stranded during low tide and alerted authorities. The vessel remained aground until about 9 a.m. when it was able to refloat itself on the rising tide. No reports of injuries.

The United States Coast Guard reports the Virginia Wave released some diesel fuel into the water. The incident is under investigation.
On the night of November 13, the 65 foot long fishing vessel Carole B (MMSI: 367173750) caught fire on the Frederick Sound while berthed in Petersburg, Alaska. Reports state the fire started by a portable heater near or within the vessel’s galley. A person passing through the area spotted the smoke coming from the fishing vessel and alerted local fire fighters. The local fire fighters were able to completely extinguish the blaze in an hour and a half. No one was on board the Carole B at the time of the fire.

Reports state the vessel did sustain material damage and extensive smoke damage. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
On the early morning hours of November 8, the 36.67 meter long, 129 ton fishing vessel Geumseong 135(IMO: 8916592) sank in the Korea Strait near Jeju Island, South Korea. The Geumseong 135 had been hauling in its catch when it lost stability, rolled over and sunk. A few minutes after the vessel sank, the Coast Guard received an alert and quickly responded. The Coast Guard deployed 14 patrol vessels and 4 helicopters to search for survivors. The Coast Guard had requested additional vessels and aircraft to assisted in the search. Rescuers found 15 of the 27 of the Geumseong 135 crew. Two of the crew rescued were found in cardiac arrest and were later declared deceased.
Over the following days, the Coast Guard recovered two additional bodies from the sea with 10 crew still missing. An oil sheen was visible over the wreck which rests in a depth of 80 to 90 meters.
