On the early morning of January 6, the 28 meter long fishing vessel Kvalnes (IMO: 9853450) ran aground near Hellbergsøya, Norway. The Kvalnes sent out a distress call with the NSSR rescue boat Harald V dispatched to the scene. The fishing vessel was found stable, but would remain aground until the next high tide before any attempts to have it refloated. The Kvalnes did not sustain any hull damage, injuries or any pollution released.

On the morning of January 3, the 70 foot long fishing vessel Guardian ran aground in Cape Cod Bay near Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The Guardian had ran ashore onto the beach and was left high and dry. The Coast Guard dispatched a tug and was able to refloat the fishing vessel later the same day with the rising tide. No reports of injuries to the 5 crew on board, no damage and no pollution was released. The cause of grounding was not disclosed.

On the morning of December 9, the 29 tonne fishing vessel Geungwang collided with a 456 tonne barge in the Sea of Japan six kilometers off the coast of Gyeongju, South Korea. The Geungwang capsized after the collision trapping the eight crew on board. The Korea Coast Guard was alerted and dispatched 15 vessels and 6 helicopters to conduct a search and rescue operation. Divers were deployed and found seven persons inside the overturned fishing vessel. They would be recovered and taken to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. One member of the Geungwang crew is still reported as missing. Reports state there were no injures among the 10 crew onboard the barge. No further details reported.
