On June 10, the fishing vessel María Cristina ran aground in the Atlantic Ocean near Cabo Vilán, Spain. The Salvamento Marítimo reports the two crew on board the María Cristina were rescued by the 10 meter long fishing vessel A Fervenza (MMSI: 224329790) which is proceeding to Camariñas for medical observation. Spanish authorities have dispatched the 21 meter long  search and rescue vessel Salvamar Altair (MMSI: 224013350) to inspect the incident site. No further details reported.

On the afternoon of May 25, a 40 foot long fishing vessel (name not disclosed) ran aground near the mouth of the Santa Clara River just outside Ventura Harbor, California. The fishing vessel had run ashore just off the beach for an undisclosed reason.  The Ventura Harbor Patrol was contacted and dispatched a rescue boat to the scene. The three crew on board the fishing vessel were safely rescued. Reports state the crew had already contacted a company to start salvage operations.

Authorities have stated the incident is under investigation. There have been no reports of any pollution released from the incident. The Coast Guard reported the fishing vessel was later towed to a nearby boatyard.

 

L’En-ma

On the early morning of May 20, the 16 meter long fishing vessel L’En-ma (IMO: 8543890) caught fire in the English Channel while berthed at a quay in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, France. The local fire brigade found the vessel completely engulphed in flames. Some 50 fire fighters were mobilized to tackle the blaze. After 6 hours, the fire was extinguished. Authorities placed booms around the L’En-ma to contain any pollution released.

Fire damage to the L’En-ma was extensive, but the fishing vessel was still reported afloat. There were no reports of injuries from the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
