Fishing Vessel Fire

On January 17, an 85 tonne fishing vessel caught fire off the coast of Narodo Island, South Korea. Authorities were alerted and dispatched a patrol boat to the scene. Authorities were able to extinguish the blaze, but the fishing vessel sustained significant damage to its stern.  One of the 12 crew on board suffered burns from the fire and was taken to hospital. Two crew were listed as missing. Reports state the men may have jumped overboard right after the fire broke out.  Authorities have not released the name of the fishing vessel.

On January 2, the 308 foot long fishing carrier Ou Ya Leng No. 6 ran aground in the Marshall Islands on Taka Atoll. United States Coast Guard dispatched an aircraft to scene and found the crew was safe and no signs of pollution. Two fishing vessels were en route to help unload cargo from the Ou Ya Leng No. 6.

Reports state no injuries to the 24 crew. The incident is under investigation.

The 77 foot long fishing vessel AMG ran aground along Ormond Beach, Florida.  The shrimping vessel had been at anchor when its anchor line parted and drifted ashore. No reports of injuries.  The crew attempted to refloat the vessel, but the AMG couldn’t pass over the sandbar.  A tug was dispatched from Jacksonville to help free the vessel.
