The 62 meter long fishing vessel Kapitan Gromtsev became disabled off Malangsgrunnen, Norway. The trawler had suffered engine failure and went adrift. Authorities dispatched the patrol boat Harstad to the scene.

The Harstad took the Kapitan Gromtsev under tow and headed towards Tromsø. Later, a tug from Tromsø took over the tow and proceeded to berth at Tromsø. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 63 foot long fishing vessel Truline suffered damage off San Clemente Island, California. The vessel with 20 passengers and five crew had struck a submerged object and sustained hull damage. The Truline had suffered water ingress and the vessel’s pumps were unable to control the flooding.

The vessel sent out distress call with the Coast Guard responding. A Jayhawk helicopter, a 45-foot response boat and the 87 foot cutter Sockeye were dispatched to the scene. The vessels arrived on scene and assisted in evacuating the passengers off the Truline. No reports of injuries.

The Coast Guard assisted in dewatering the fishing vessel and escorted the Truline back to Newport Beach. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident. No reports of pollution released.

The 20 meter long fishing vessel O Busi caught fire off Cedeira, Spain. The started in the vessel’s engine room and quickly got out of control. The fire spread through out the ship and soon the superstructure was engulf in flames. Unable to fight the blaze, the crew of the O Busi sent out a distress call requesting assistance.

Spanish authorities were contacted and dispatched a nearby helicopter which was conducting an exercise in the area. Before the helicopter arrived, all eight crew of the O Busi abandoned ship into the vessel’s liferaft. The helicopter reached the scene and hoisted all eight men to safety. No reports of injuries, but the master of the O Busi were taken to hospital on shore.

The O Busi remained adrift as it continued to burn.  Patrol boats and lifeboats arrived on scene later the same day to see if the fishing vessel could be taken under tow, but reports state the vessel burned to the waters edge.
