The 40 meter long fishing trawler Angela Arcella capsized in Grand Harbour, Malta. The trawler was carrying bait when it was struck by the 152 meter long, 9422 dwt cargo vessel Maria. The Maria had suffered a mechanical failure while manuevering and struck the Angela Arcella, the moored 88 meter long, 2362 dwt cargo vessel Union and the 29 meter long, 190 dwt tug Lieni. The Angela Arcella rolled over on its port side spilling the two crewmen on board into the water. Both were later rescued and taken to hospital, but no reports of injuries. The Union and Lieni sustained no damage. Authorities responded and booms were placed around the Angela Arcella to contain any pollution released.

The 44 meter long fishing vessel Carmona ran aground in Concarneau, France. The Carmona was departing from the port when it became disabled after the fishing vessel suffered a technical fault and the Carmona drifted onto a sandbank. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. A tug was dispatched to the scene and refloated the Carmona a short time later. The fishing vessel returned to port to be inspected for damage.

 

Gladstone

On July 18, the 48 foot long fishing vessel Gladstone ran aground near Jones Island, Washington. The Gladstone had struck a rock and suffered water ingress before running aground. Two nearby vessels came to the aid of the Gladstone and safely rescued the single person on board. No reports of injuries. Authorities arrived on scene and found a sheen of diesel fuel had formed around the vessel. The Gladstone had some 900 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time. Some 700 gallons of fuel had been safely removed,. The Coast Guard and state authorities have dispatched a pollution response team to the scene. Reports states a salvage team was able to seal the hull and towed the Gladstone to a nearby marina.
