On March 1, the 294 meter long, 67751 dwt container ship Kalliopi became disabled off Le Havre, France. The Kalliopi had suffered a total power blackout just as it departed from Le Havre, France. The vessel dropped anchor and attempted to carry out repairs.  The following day authorities dispatched a helicopter with an emergency team who were lowered to the deck of the Kalliopi.  The container ship was unable to keep at it’s anchor due to rough conditions. Both crew and the emergency team connected a towline to the emergency tug Abeille Liberté which arrived from Cherbourg. The Abeille Liberté towed the Kalliopi into Le Harve.  No reports of injuries to the 24 crew on board, damage or pollution released.

The 88 meter long cargo vessel Amadeus Amethist became disabled in the English Channel near Fécamp, France. The Amadeus Amethist was headed to Fécamp from Antwerp in ballast when it suffered engine failure in rough seas. The crew dropped anchor and requested assistance.  Tugs were dispatched to assist as the cargo vessel was being pushed by the strong winds and heavy seas.  As the risk of the vessel going ashore increased, a helicopter was dispatched to the scene.  The helicopter lowered personnel to the Amadeus Amethist and was able to assist in restarting the engine. The vessel proceed into port a few hours later. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 23 meter long fishing vessel L’Europe caught fire off Barfleur, France. The crew on board were alerted to a  fire broke that broke out in the engine room. The crew of the L’Europe engaged the fire suppressant system and were able to contain the blaze, but not before the main engine was damaged. Authorities dispatched a helicopter along with a SNSM lifeboat to the scene while two nearby trawlers proceeded to the L’Europe. Assisted by authorities, the crew were unable to restart the main engine, but were able to start an auxiliary motor to bring up the L’Europe trawl. The SNSM lifeboat escorted the L’Europe being towed by another trawler to Port-en-Bessin. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
